What you get

Support that matches the weight

Heavy lights need more than the box that's already up there. I put in proper bracing, especially over stairs and dining tables.

Hung level and at the right height

Measured against the room and the furniture below, not judged by eye from a ladder.

Dimmers that don't buzz

The dimmer matched to the light, so you get the full range with no flicker and no humming.

What I hang

The light over the stairs

The hardest fixture in most houses is the one hanging over the stairwell. It's high up, awkward to reach, and usually the heaviest thing in the room.

Those need proper support and a plan for getting the fixture up there without damaging it or the wall. I've done plenty. I'll look at yours when I come out to quote and tell you what's involved.

Before you buy

Weight and how it mounts matter more than how it looks in the photo. A light meant for a flat ceiling won't hang straight on a sloped one, and a heavy chandelier won't go on a standard ceiling box.

If you're not sure, wait until I've been out to quote. I'll tell you what your ceiling will take, and you can buy once instead of twice.

Common questions

I already bought the light. Will you install it?

Yes. And I'll tell you honestly if it's wrong for the spot before I put it up.

There's no light where I want one.

Then it needs new wiring and a switch. I'll quote that once I've seen the space.

Can you put outside lights on a timer or sensor?

Yes - timer, motion sensor, or automatic at dusk. I'll suggest which suits how you use the space.

Will you take the old one away?

Yes. Cleanup and hauling away the old one is included on every job.

My new LED light flickers on the old dimmer.

That's a mismatch between the dimmer and the light. Common, and an easy fix.

Why most people dread hiring an electrician

Everyone has a story about a contractor. Here's what usually goes wrong, and what I do instead.

What usually happensWhat I do

They show up late (or not at all).

I show up on time.

They buy cheap materials.

I buy better materials than the job calls for.

They cut corners.

I think things through.

They leave a mess.

I clean up after myself.

They might be underinsured or unlicensed.

I carry proper insurance and licensing.

They may have a criminal history.

I'm background checked with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

They charge by the hour, so you don't know what you'll actually pay.

I quote a flat price, and I stick to it.

They send whoever's available - often an apprentice.

I do every job myself.

They sell you as much as they can, even if you don't need it.

I want to earn your business for the long-term.

I take pride in doing it right, the first time.
