Troubleshooting & Repair
Something's not working and nobody can tell you why. I find the actual cause and fix that.

What you get
A proper search for the cause
I trace the circuit to find where it's actually failing, rather than guessing at the symptom.
The repair done properly
Fixed with good parts so it stays fixed.
A check that nothing else is wrong
Once it's repaired I check the rest of that circuit, so you don't get a call-back for the thing sitting next to it.

What I get called for
Dead outlets along one wall. A breaker that trips every time the microwave and the toaster run together. Lights that dim when the heating kicks in. A burning smell nobody can find. Half the basement out after a storm.
Different symptoms, same approach: find what's actually wrong, then fix that.
Why I don't guess
Swapping a part because it might be the problem is how people end up paying three times for one repair.
I trace the circuit, find where it fails, and tell you what it is and what it costs before I fix it.
Sometimes the answer is a seventy dollar part. Sometimes it's a panel that should have been replaced years ago. I'll tell you which one you've got - including when it's the cheap one.
What I won't do
I won't chase a symptom I haven't found the cause of and call it fixed.
And I won't leave something dangerous switched on because it wasn't what you called about. If I find it, I'll show you and tell you what it takes to fix it.
Common questions
Do you do emergency calls?
No. I work Tuesday to Friday, 5:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and I don't work weekends. If it's an emergency, call someone who runs a 24-hour service - that's a straight answer, not a brush-off.
How do you charge for finding the fault?
Flat rate, quoted before I start, same as everything else. You'll know the number before I open anything up.
What if you can't find it?
Rare, but it happens with faults that come and go. I'll tell you what I've ruled out and what it would take to keep going, rather than billing you to keep poking at it.
My breaker keeps tripping. Can I just fit a bigger one?
No. The breaker is sized to protect the wire behind it. A bigger breaker doesn't protect anything - it just lets the wire get hot. The tripping is the safety system working. Something else is wrong.
You found something the last electrician missed. Now what?
I'll show you what it is, explain how it got there, and quote the fix. No lecture about the last guy.
Why most people dread hiring an electrician
Everyone has a story about a contractor. Here's what usually goes wrong, and what I do instead.
They show up late (or not at all).
I show up on time.
They buy cheap materials.
I buy better materials than the job calls for.
They cut corners.
I think things through.
They leave a mess.
I clean up after myself.
They might be underinsured or unlicensed.
I carry proper insurance and licensing.
They may have a criminal history.
I'm background checked with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
They charge by the hour, so you don't know what you'll actually pay.
I quote a flat price, and I stick to it.
They send whoever's available - often an apprentice.
I do every job myself.
They sell you as much as they can, even if you don't need it.
I want to earn your business for the long-term.
I take pride in doing it right, the first time.
